Our Centre Philosophy

All Educators and Staff Members at Only Early Learning Centre believe in the importance of creating and maintaining trusting, loving and secure relationships. We believe that learning is enhanced once these relationships are formed. Our interactions, practices and decision making are based on attachment theory and we strive to be warm and responsive to children’s individual needs. We aim to work with the children, their families and the wider community to continually develop our understanding of individual children. We believe this will support the ongoing development of meaningful curriculum’s that promote children’s learning.

Attachment Theory

Attachment is an emotional bond to another person. Bowlby believed that the earliest bonds formed by children with their caregivers have a tremendous impact that continues throughout life.  Bowlby’s attachment theory plays a key role in early childhood settings and, research has shown, the types of interactions between educators and children that form healthy attachments are vital to the children’s later educational outcomes.(Melhuish, Phan, et al. 2008)

The Circle of Security

The Circle of Security is a way for carers and educators to look beyond a child’s behaviour and think about how to they can meet their relationship needs. The top half of the circle represents the secure base of support children need for exploration, play and learning. The hand supporting the bottom half of the circle represents the safe haven children return to for connection when they have had enough of exploring.  (The Circle of Security – Roadmap to Building Supportive Relationships – Robyn Dolby)
